What a great selection of films. Calmed the beast within, i tell you. I liked everything except that opening animation crap. Millions of dollars thrown at this budget, and yet the animation was archaic and the storyline stale. please... a flatulating Santa.
In any case LOVED "Kevin McCorry's "The Shredder" and Zak Forsman's "I F***ing Hate You". Can't stop singing that song. Those IOW films were amazing, with a great comparison of styles utilizing the SAME script. I like the concept.
And tonight's feature, "Dark Horse", was everything I anticipated, and then some. Director Dagur Kari was exacting in his character studies and development. This was a film for the ages, and I can't believe it never toured in US after it's follies at Cannes in 2005. I LOVED this film, as it had a bit of everything: Comedy, Drama, fun Music SoundTrack.
Monster needs more films... I'm sure SouthSide won't disappoint.
Have already read, and I very much enjoyed your review. And you are correct, you can argue with Moore's tactics, but he does bring up some very important points that DO need to be heard and seen by ALL. Unfortunately, with Moore's history of one-sided tactics, he has pretty much taken away any REAL chance of a devout Republican to go out and see this movie.
Power certainly does breed contempt. Leave it to the Republican Party to declare a Democratic Filmmaker a "National Threat". Ever wonder why there aren't many Republican Documentary Filmmakers? What criminal would want his secretive illegal acts exposed?

Hey Martin, just letting you know that I FINALLY posted my review of "Sicko", which you can check it out on my Frankenflick blog. Cheers sir! javascript:emoticon('[WINK]');
Great review Martin. I'll be adding my two cents on this within my blog in the next day. Saw the film last weekend on opening day. Great film, and it certainly makes Moore look like less of a pompous, arrogant jerk, and more like a friend showing us the inadequacies of our own health system. I'm a big fan of documentary filmmaking and also thankful for Moore steering a wider audience to the genre. However, at times his tactics are deceitful, manipulative, and often well-edited misquotes. Michael has shaken some of his facade and gotten back to why he did "Roger and Me".
For your other readers... get "Roger and Me" on your Netflix lists (or "Bowling for Columbine") for a sampling of Moore films. "Fahrenheit" may have been the most publicly accessed documentary and broke box office records for Docs, but it certainly is not the best example of what Moore is capable of or what documentaries can do for a cause. And to other comments... Moore is visually less prominent in this film. Less Moore IS better.
I know what you're saying. I screened "Sicko" last weekend. Plan to spread a review on one of my blogs. But yeah... it would seem they are all crocked. I have a big mouth and like to effect change, but know my efforts would never transleate in the dishonest World of Politics. How DO we effect change without getting "into" the belly of the beast?
I'm not familiar with Longford, but I see it also starred one of my favorite character actors as Lord Longford; Jim Broadbent, who has done some amazing things in films like "Bridget Jones", "Moulin Rouge", and the AMAZING 80's Cult Classic,"Brazil". I'm putting this on my Netflix Queue.
You say you're stuck in the boonies? You obviously have internet ability... you can check the SouthSide Film Fest partner channel online at HaydenFilms Dot Com. THanks for reading....
Filmolina, sounds lke you've been busy... screening films, playing "match-maker", staying out late partying. I've known people like you in previous lives. I'm craving more FILM FESTIVAL..... NOW!!! I've been forced into anonymity so I can openly "talk" about life and films, and express my opinions without judgement. So here we are, writing anonymously, two nameless souls with a thirst for good films. Enjoy the show.
